Experimenting with local plants and practising the techniques to develop proficiency in making natural cordage. With practice, strong and useful cordage can be made from many common plants

07.

Mindfulness in Nature

Mindfulness in nature refers to the practice of being intentionally aware and present in natural surroundings. This form of mindfulness combines the principles of mindfulness—such as awareness of the present moment and non-judgmental observation—with the sensory and experiential richness of nature.

08.

Weather reading and prediction

Weather reading in the wild involves observing natural indicators and understanding basic meteorology. Key aspects include monitoring clouds, wind patterns, air pressure, and temperature trends. Natural signs like animal behavior and plant reactions can provide valuable clues about impending changes. Practical skills involve using basic instruments, understanding local weather patterns, and recognizing signs of approaching storms. Developing these skills requires practice, experience, and maintaining a weather journal. While modern technology is helpful, the ability to read nature’s signs is crucial in remote areas. Combining careful observation with meteorological knowledge allows outdoor enthusiasts to make informed short-term weather predictions, enhancing safety and preparedness in wilderness situations.

What Our Customers Say

The LCA students in St Mary’s experienced a lovely bonding day of bushcraft, all thanks to local Nenagh man, Tom Bán. By sharing his wide range of knowledge, we were very fortunate to learn various survival skills in order to fend for ourselves in the wild if such time ever came.

We were taught how to start our own fire, purify water, set up shelter and many other useful tricks to keep ourselves safe. From start to finish, it was a very positive experience for all involved. I feel privileged in LCA to be able to do intriguing and practical things like this that I wouldn’t get the opportunity to do otherwise. Many thanks to Tom for providing us with such a wonderful and memorable experience.
